Persona 3 is a J-RPG style game developed by ATLUS in 2006. It follows the journey of Makoto Yuuki who arrives at a dorm after witnessing strange behaviours on citizens at midnight known as the Dark Hour. Later on he joins S.E.E.S. (Specialized Extracurricular Exploration Squad) who is a group of highschool students investigating and fighting these acts at the Dark Hour with the help of Personas, the manifestation of the user's psyche. The game combines RPG style fighting and dungeon crawling with life simulation with the date system and Social Links who help level up your Persona.

PERSONA: the physical manifestation of a person's psyche. If you truly accept yourself exactly as you are, you get one. If you don't, sad.
SHADOW: when people DON'T accept themselves and repress those hard feelings, they become Shadows and affect the real world.
EVOKER: it's a gun used to summon one's Persona in P3. The user must shoot themselves to make it appear.
SEES: it's the main cast's squad to help mantain the order between the Dark Hour and the real world and fight Shadows.
STREGA: they are to opposite to S.E.E.S. They WANT the Dark Hour to remain.
TARTARUS: in the Dark Hour, Gekkoukan High School (P3 HS) turns into a large tower full of Shadows. Think of it as a mob spawner.
DARK HOUR: a hidden hour between 12AM and 1 AM where non-Persona users turn into coffins while Persona users do experience it and get attacked by Shadows.
APATHY SYNDROME: non-Persona users get different fates when 'killed' by Shadows. In P3, they get this 'Apathy Syndrome' where they get in a vegetative state kind of like zombies, and they are referred to as 'The Lost'.
VELVET ROOM: this place exists between dream and reality, mind and matter. It's a consistent place in the Persona series. It all starts there when Igor sends off the protagonist onto a new mission. In the case of P3, Makoto or Kotone signs off a contract, making them responsible of his/her acts, and it's represented by an elevator.
SOCIAL LINK: in order to level up your personas in the Velvet Room, you have to form Social Links. These bonds are based on the Arcana cards from the Tarot and each card represents a 'stereotype' in these series. ie: Lovers arcana usually are main romance interests.
Arcana: they are cards from the Tarot deck, usually 22, numbered from 0 to 21. It also can mean 'A deep secret; a mystery' according to the english dictionary.

INTRO
The game starts when the respective protagonist (either male or female, according to your choice and the game version you're playing) enters Iwatodai dorm a tiring night but he notices everything is too quiet even for midnight. Upon arriving and being greeted by Yukari and Mitsuru, he learns that he is currently experiencing the Dark Hour, a hidden hour between 12AM and 1AM iirc. Later on, he battles his first Shadow who gets him into an aprox. 20 day coma (to explain it briefly, Shadows are people's repressed emotions. When they cannot be accepted unlike main characters on this series do, instead of becoming Personas, they become shadows and 'absorb' or kill non-Persona users in their own reality or IRL without them realizing it or in the case of P3, they get the Apathy Syndrome).
